Lakenheath (EGUL/LKZ) - 2009 MIL

Post by J.J. »

Please check the following 48th FW PA news article, released today: http://www.lakenheath.af.mil/news/story ... =123130328
[...] "The main body left today (Jan. 3)," said Lt. Col. Matthew Finnegan, 48th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron commander. "We have three more chalks with all our equipment and about 20 F-15 Strike Eagles deploying to the same location."

He said this deployment has the most aircraft of any the 48th Fighter Wing has ever sent out. The jets are from the 492nd Fighter Squadron and their primary mission will be close-air support for U.S. and coalition forces. [...]
Note: The 492nd EFS deploys for OEF to the 455th AEW at Bagram AB, Afghanistan, as part of USAF's upcoming AEF 7/8 (Cycle 7) rotation (January - April 2009). They will replace the 391st EFS from Seymour Johnson AFB. The fact that the 492nd EFS deploys with a larger number of aircraft as usual must be related to partial A-10 groundings. Ten of the twelve A-10Cs from the 75th EFS which deployed together with the 391st EFS are already relocated to Spangdahlem AB, Germany, for wing inspections and repairs. Meanwhile, the 75th EFS got at least four replacements from Moody AFB, Georgia.

Anybody who can/will provide me the serial numbers of the 492nd EFS F-15Es which are either already enroute to Bagram AB or still slated to left RAF Lakenheath? I would be very grateful for any support.

BTW: Related tanker support info was already posted in the topic Lajes (Azores) (LPLA/TER) 2009: http://www.scramble.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=47982. But so I think, their single stopover point enroute to Afghanistan was or should be Al Udeid AB, Qatar.

According to Oscar01 and joost, 18 jets are finally deployed (Mazda 11-16, Mazda 21-26, and Mazda 31-36). That means, they deployed six more jets in addition to the usual twelve. What I still not understand is the unusual callsign Jazz 71 for one of the two air spares. Anybody who can/will explain that?

Another question: Is it still usual that Lakenheath Strike Eagles enroute to Bagram AB make their first stopover at Al Udeid AB, Qatar? Or use they NAS Sigonella, Cicily, for their first and last stopovers?

BTW: Today, in a news article "Lakenheath airmen head for middle east" the Watton and Swaffham Times reported: [...] People living in Norfolk were awoken in the early hours of Monday morning by the 492nd Fighter Squadron F-15E Strike Eagles leaving the base at 3am. [...]

During the next four months, I will further check related USAF public websites on a daily basis to get any serials by photo proofs for the deployed 492nd EFS Strike Eagles. Any related update I will publish at first on http://www.f-15estrikeeagle.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Deployment 4 F.15'S 493 EFS at Sialiai, Lithuania

As of October 2008 until January 5th, 2009 4 F.15's of 493 EFS were deployed at Sialiai, Lithuania in support of the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission.

These 4 were flying home to Lakenheath, January 5th, 2009 over Friesland between 12:00 and 12:25. One of them was possibly the 86-0160. (according to a photo on the website of RAF Lakenheath.)

Can anyone confirm this and give the id's from the other 3.

PolAF F-16 landed yesterday ca. 1110z at EGUL. Is anyone able to get any info about the schedule for the next part of her flight, including ETD from EGUL? I guess the destination would be LPLA.
