Alaska Air Fuel DC-4 overruns runway

On 10 October, Alaska Air Fuel's sole aircraft, Douglas DC-4 N96358, overran the runway at Yakataga (AK). The 1944-vintage aircraft sustained severe damage to it's nose section.

On 6 October the unpaved runway was damaged in another incident, prompting the FAA to issue a warning operators not to land with aircraft heavier than 5,000 pounds or special high-flotation landing gear suitable for unpaved surfaces. According to the FAA the risk was that planes could otherwise overrun the runway because of being too heavy...
