Alaska unveils 1st B787, orders more Boeings
On 7 January 2026, Alaska Airlines unveiled its first Boeing B787-9 in its own new "global livery". At the same event, the airline also announced its largest ever order with Boeing.
Alaska Airlines has decided to place an order for 105 B737-10s, as well as exercising its five options for the B787. For these latter aircraft, the airline has selected the B787-10. With this latest order, it now has open orders with Boeing for 245 aircraft.
The orders are part of the airline's plan to renew and expand the fleet until 2035. Today, the airline is operating 413 aircraft. By 2030, this will be 475 and by 2035 it will be 550. This includes a planned Dreamliner-fleet of seventeen.
In August 2025, Alaska Airlines announced its intention to operate flights between Seattle (WA) and destinations in Europe. They will also take-over the long-haul routes currently being operated by Hawaiian Airlines between Seattle (WA) and Seoul and Tokyo. Flights to London, Reykjavik and Rome are planned to begin in May and June this year.
The first B787-9 to have received the Alaska Airlines-livery is N784HA (66432). It was delivered to the airline all white on 6 December 2025 and has been repainted over the last weeks at Fort Worth (TX). It was re-delivered to Seattle (WA) on 7 January 2026 and will conduct its first commercial flight on 8 January 2026 to Tokyo-Narita.
