Government of Burundi to establish a new airline

The Government of Burundi announced in 24 December that its planning to establish a new airline in 2021 which will be called Burundi Airlines. The airline will act as a successor of defunct Air Burundi and will be owned by the state for 92%. No details were given in the statement of the Government about which routes and which types the airline will operate.

Air Burundi ceased operations already in September 2009. In 2013 the airline attempted to restart when it received a donated MA-60 from China, but issues with the certification of the aircraft prevented this.
