Heli H140 640Successful introduction of new Airbus H140 helicopter

Airbus Helicopters has seen a successful introduction of their new H140 model during the VERTICON vertical lift industry show in Dallas(TX). The show, formerly known as the HAI Heli-Expo took place from 10 to 13 March 2025.

As a twin-engined 3-tonne class helicopter, the H140 is an adddition to Airbus' current range of rotorcraft. It features a wide range of innovations, including a new T-shaped tail boom with an optimised Fenestron that reduces sound levels, a five-blade bearingless main rotor, and new powerful Safran Arrius 2E 700 shp engines. The helicopter also features a larger cabin space, large windows and optimized cabin layout that can accommodate up to six passengers comfortably.

Designed with accessibility in mind, thanks to the large clamshell doors and the high tail boom, the H140’s rear loading capabilities allow the use of different types of stretcher systems including intensive care ones and transport incubators while its large sliding doors facilitate access to the cabin.

The characteristics of the new H140 have attracted huge interest from potential buyers. The interest has led to an impressive number of orders from leading customers. One of the launch customers for the new H140 helicopter is Metro Aviation, an air medical operator based in Shreveport (LA). Metro has ordered twelve H140 helicopters, with options for 24 additional helicopters.

Another launch customer of the H140 is Global Medical Response (GMR), one of the largest operators of Airbus helicopters in North America. GMR is one of the leading companies in the air medical industry. Their headquarter is situated in Lewisville (TX). Global Medical Response has ordered 10 H140s, with options for five additional helicopters.

European launch customers for the H140 are German ADAC Luftrettung and ÖAMTC Flugrettung from Austria. Both have ordered five examples of the H140. Airbus decided to incorporate the valuable operational expertise from ADAC Luftrettung and ÖAMTC during their daily air rescue missions in the development of the H140. Not strange, knowing that ADAC Luftrettung, one of the biggest HEMS operators in Europe, uses 60 Airbus helicopters from their 38 stations. And ÖAMTC Flugrettung operates 32 H135 helicopters from 18 permanent bases and 4 additional winter bases in Austria.
