West Atlantic B737 1 640Swiftair Boeing gets wet feet

On 24 September, a Swiftair Boeing 737-400 (EC-NLS, 25856), operating flight SWN5745 on behalf of West Atlantic Sweden (and also painted in those colours), from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Montpellier-Méditerranée Airport with three crew members, landed on Montpellier's runway 12L in heavy rain at 02:36 hours local time.

Due to the heavy rain it overran the end of the runway and came to a stop with the nose gear already in the water, about 200 metres past the runway end.

There were no injuries, the aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The airport reported the aircraft's front part (nose) was partially submerged in the lake Étang de l'Or, Hérault, next to Côte de la Castillone. It was also closed for all traffic until the aircraft could be removed.

In the day following the incident, 25 September, it was lifted out of the water, put on a low loader and removed from the site.
