On 6 May 2025, VietJetAir and Qazaq Air announced a strategic partnership. Part of this agreement is that the Vietnamese low-cost carrier acquires 51% of the shares in Qazaq Air and will rebrand the airline into VietJetAir Qazaqstan.

The new low-cost carrier is planned to "become a strategic air bridge connecting Kazakhstan with Vietnam, Southeast Asia, and global aviation hubs".

According to VietJet's press-release, VietJetAir Qazaqstan will have a fleet of at least twenty Boeing B737MAXs. These will be allocated to the start-up from VietJetAir's existing order book it has with Boeing for 200 MAXs.

No timelines have been communicated when the rebranding and launch of VietJetAir Qazaqstan will take place.

Qazaq Air was founded in 2015 and launched operations in 2021. It was fully owned by the government and is currently operating a fleet of five DHC-8-400s.

VietJetAir was founded in 2007 and began flying in 2011. It currently operates a fleet of seventeen Airbus A320s, 36 A321s, 36 A321neos, and seven A330-300s. The group also has a subsidiary in Thailand called ThaiVietJetAir. This airline is flying with twelve A320s and six A321s.
