Na meer dan 1.100 uur als testtoestel te hebben gevlogen voor de Koninklijke Luchtmacht
heeft F-35A F-001 een nieuwe missie gekregen.
De F-35A Lightning II werd dezer dagen overgevlogen naar Luke Air Force Base
waar het zal worden ingezet als trainingsvliegtuig voor (nieuwe) Nederlandse F-35A piloten.

LUKE AFB – Het Nederlandse F-35 Training Detachment (NODF-35)
gaat de komende dagen voor het eerst tests uitvoeren met AIM-9X Sidewinder raketten.
Deze worden onder de vleugels gehangen van F-35A F-003.

Lockheed Martin Corp., Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., Fort Worth, Texas,
is awarded a $67,690,000 not-to-exceed modification (P00004)
to previously awarded fixed-price-incentive-firm-target advance acquisition contract N00019-20-C-0009.
This modification procures long lead materials, parts, components and support
necessary to maintain on-time production and delivery of nine lot 16 F-35A Lightning II aircraft
for the government of The Netherlands,
as well as seven F-35A semiconductors and two F-35B Lightning II aircraft for the government of Italy.
Work is expected to be completed by May 2025.
Non-Department of Defense participant funds in the amount of $67,690,000 will be obligated at time of award,
none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.

On July 1, the Defense Department issued the following correction:
"The June 29, 2020, announcement of a contract modification (P00004)
to Lockheed Martin Corp., Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., Fort Worth, Texas (N00019-20-C-0009),
for $67,690,000 included incorrect procurement information.
"This modification is for the procurement of long lead materials, parts, components and support
necessary to maintain on-time production and delivery
of nine Lot 16 F-35A Lightning II aircraft for the government of The Netherlands,
as well as seven F-35A Lightning II and two F-35B Lightning II aircraft for the government of Italy."

De levering van de komende 2 F-35 toestellen loopt door de impact van COVID-19-maatregelen een lichte vertraging op.
De AN-11 en AN-12 worden eind deze maand op Vliegbasis Leeuwarden verwacht. Ook de daarna aan Nederland te leveren vliegtuigen zullen vertraging ondervinden.
De exacte impact op de F-35-productie is nog lastig in te schatten en hangt mede af van de COVID-19-maatregelen in de diverse landen die betrokken zijn bij de productie van het toestel. Volgens het oorspronkelijke schema zouden in 2020 zeker 7 F-35 vliegtuigen aan Nederland worden geleverd. De verwachting is dat door de COVID-19 maatregelen 1 of enkele van deze vliegtuigen pas begin 2021 worden geleverd.
Op dit moment is er geen aanleiding te veronderstellen dat de vervanging van de F-16 naar het 5e generatie jachtvliegtuig in 2024 gevaar loopt. (f

Een Nederlandse F-35A heeft in de Verenigde Staten schade opgelopen door een vogelaanvaring.
Dit meldt het Ministerie van Defensie.
De vogelaanvaring vond woensdag plaats tijdens een trainingsvlucht vanaf Luke Air Force basis in Arizona.
