Hello Uni,
Thanks for providing the additional information.
Regarding your JASDF point 4, according to my information, only six F-2Bs were repaired to date so still seven to go.
These 12 F-2Bs are not active and of these only 7 should be repaired, 03-8103, 03-8104, 23-8107, 23-8109, 23-8110, 23-8111, 23-8114, 33-8117, 33-8119, 33-8120, 43-8127 and 53-8131.

Hi, Hans.
You are right.
I did not check the S/Ns this time.
I've changed the JASDF point 4.

Hello Uni,
I am making arrangements for a trip in April / May to include the Friendship Day show at Iwakuni;
Do you know if the USN CAG at Atsugi tend to fly on the Monday and Tuesday after their Spring Festival Open House?

If the Open House is confirmed as April 29th, the next week is Golden Week.

Do you know if they tend to scale back flying in Golden Week and / or on the days after the Open House?
This trip will probably be my last chance to see the CAG at Atsugi, and I am trying to decide the best days to watch outside the base to photograph them flying.

Thanks,
Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan,
CVW-5 at Atsugi will fly from May 2nd. (Tue) to 5th.(Fri), because they are not holidays for the American people.
But usually there are less flights during the "Golden Week"(means continual holidays at the 1st. week of May in Japan).

The day after the O.H. of NAS Atsugi, there will be no flight or quite less flights usually.

Well, I expect;
May 1st.: no flight,
2nd.: good,
3rd.: less but you'll take photos,
4th: good,
5th: no flight or quite less flights.

Well, that's all today.

Uni,

Thank you very much for your reply;

> CVW-5 at Atsugi will fly from May 2nd. (Tue) to 5th.(Fri), because they are not holidays for the American people.

Thanks.
I used a similar logic in 2013 when I arranged to spend the period 26th December to 3rd January at Atsugi.
Previously I had spent the 27th to the 30th of December in 2010 at Iwakuni, and although there was little flying on the 27th, the 28th and 29th were busy. The 30th was continuous rain.
So I was hoping in 2013 that Atsugi would be similarly active in the period between the Emperor's Birthday / Christmas and the New Year.

It wasn't.

The best most plausible explanation I have been told is that over the festive season in December, the husbands are off work and at home, and in the area around Atsugi they would complain loudly about the noise. So flying is curtailed.
That explanation doesn't necessarily stand up to scrutiny, but with ANA and Skymark about to open flight bookings for the April / May period, I needed to know whether a similar reduction in flying takes place during Golden Week so I can plan whether to spend the start of that week at Kadena, or at Atsugi with the Open House on the Saturday. The back end of the week is less important as I plan to be at Iwakuni, who will hopefully be rehearsing for their show.

Thanks,
Jonathan.

Atsugi PAO says; "If you bring your passport as identification, you will be allowed to enter the base during the Spring Fest event." So no pre-authorisation necessary.
