Leeuwarden Spotters Day 19 June

Hello all,

Like last year again a Spotters Day will be held on "Arrivals Day" for the Open Days Leeuwarden.

Anyone know whether it will be allowed to stay near the fence outside the base during the arrivals on Thursday 19 June? I know loitering near the approach was prohibited in 2006 and enforced by local police...

Will this spotters day again be a members-only affair, like last year, or are individual spotters also allowed to subscribe this year?

Hi,

It will be a members only day. Improvement to last year is that Leeuwarden has invited all Dutch Spotting Groups instead of only the local Group. 400 places are available for this day.

So that means that if you're not a member of any known spotting group, admission is impossible, and you're at the merci of local police if you want to take pictures...

No improvement for me (and many more like me) then...

you can still join any known dutch spotting group.
you will support our hobby, get a nice magazine and maybe go to the spottersday at leeuwarden, just do not wait!

For now: yes, but with the experience of last year you could have:
- Made your "unknown" spotting group known to Leeuwarden
- Support the local Spotting group (AGL) just in case.

and you're at the merci of local police if you want to take pictures...

Maybe, I don't know if the police will act the same as on Volkel. Only one way to find out...

Again, I think that this is an improvement. Let's focus on the positive side. Last year the volunteers of SGV put a lot of effort in making a spottersday possible in the first place. Apparantly the KLu was positive about this and adopted and improved the idea. [/quote]

Unless, you manage to get on the list of any Dutch spotting group.
Creating your own "unknown" group will not work.

Is there any chance for people living outside The Netherlands?

PS: Are there any spotting groups that allow foreigners?

As far as I know most spotting groups allow foreign members......The Gilze Rijen Aviation Society for sure!!

So if you want you can become a member and sign in for the spottersday...

In 2006 I was at the arrival day at a little grass field (I think it was at the Bitgumerdijk at the begin of 06) and made there very nice pics with no problems at all from police or something. Is that this time also possible? Some people warned that time for possible police problems but nothing from that. There where maybe a couple of hundred other spotters.

Tumbs up for the improvements for the fact we have got an spottersday!

Understandable that those who have no spotting group to belong to, are disapointed for no access. Their reaction is understandable to.

As far asd I am expierenced:
This started at Twenthe, there you could only enter base with the 25sq rotation 1999, if you were a known member of a spotting group.
The reason for the Klu was that in that way the spotting groups did the most of the adminstative paperwork and they got a board from each organisation who were responsable for their one spotters.

Understandable to reduce the paperwork for the Dutch Defence.
However: does the Royal association "Onze Luchtmacht" counts as an spotterssociety?

What I understood from here, this will be closed.

It states this is for everybody's safety, so I suggest to comply with it without making any problems. Not doing so might be strike back at the whole Dutch spotters society, with lots of opportunities falling away.

Don't really understand this remark. Last year at Volkel every Dutch spotting group was invited, as well as foreign enthusiasts! 400 places as well, certainly not only for the local group.

Is Stichting DAS/Scramble also a spotting group (if you have an 'abbo' on the magazine)?
