Cervia April 2010

Post by Jaap »

On April 2010 (between days 9 - 12) Cervia Air Base, home of the F-16s based 5th Wing,
will held a great air show for the farewell of the airport as a FOB for the
F-16s fleet in Italian Service. Another closure.....

It will be also the occasion to say bye-bye to the F-16s in Cervia, because -
approaching the end of the 5 years leasing with USAF - the Vipers will be
concentrated in Trapani (37th wing home base) till the end of the flight
hours leased (40,000 since today).

Three days ago a "new" F-16 was painted in Special Colours in order to
celebrate this important goal of 40,000 flight hours.

I've heard that the airbase will NOT be closed, but that the 15th Wing from Pratica will moved to Cervia AB. So it will be a helicopter base in the future, but there would stay some F-16's for QRA task. They told me this during my visit at Cervia AB last August. It is sad that another squadron with a long history will be disbanded.

Yep, but the QRA will be done by Eurofighters later.
And the 'Greyhound' pilots sincerly hope their squadron will get a re-birth as JSF squadron, as 2/3 of the pilots will go to Amendola for JSF training after May.

Not very informative here, but just to keep track of this topic that I post, seems you can't subscribe to a topic without posting?

Anyhow, see you guys in Cervia maybe ;)

Latest news appeared on a local newpaper said the following:

April 16th: Official event with static dispaly and flying display provided by the Frecce Tricolori

April 17th: Open doors with static display

I SUPPOSE that on 16th only media and invited guest will access the base and the 17th will be for all the people.

Cheers

Giovanni
