Nightshoots

Post by MWNeedham »

As you may well be aware, nightshoots have been a thing in the UK for about a decade now.

I'm part of an organisation that runs events including nightshoots in the UK.

I've wondered if there was a similar desire to photograph aircraft at night over in mainland Europe, or do nightshoots rank alongside Irn Bru and cricket as something that we Brits are obsessed with, but is a source of bafflement and amusement for our European neighbours?

All answers gratefully received!

Thanks,

Martin

Beauvechain has done a couple of night shoots over recent years. Also the Sunset Airshow at Sanicole is always impressive .

Aviodrome has done a few, but the last one was when the L749 was still outside. It seems there were requests to do another one until recently, but it never happened. It seems there were two directions wanted by the visitors it would go to, (one into photography, the other into storytelling) which basically ruled each other out. Anyway, all events were sell-outs, but in the end all made a loss.

Reading Martin Needham's post, I think his question was much more if we would be interested in nightshoots as well in continental Europe...?

As the occasions for nightshooting are few and far between (and usually attracts great interest), I think there certainly would be a 'market' for nightshoots.

Many thanks for the responses, as Lifeliner has said, I was and am more interested in knowing if there would be an interest in nightshoots on the continent, rather than if such events had been held previously. I wasn't sure if there were so few nightshoots in mainland Europe because of a lack of interest, because I'm not seeing advertising for them, or simply because there just aren't that many nightshoots full-stop.

Many thanks,

Martin

Hi Martin,

There is a big market for nightshoots in Europe, just like in the UK. I know of at least a dozen of Dutch guys who regularly travel to the UK for the Northolt Nightshoot, as well as several other military shoots.

With all special interest groups in the UK, many opportunities are created. Europe is slowly following suit, and I hope more events will include night photography opportunities.

What was the intention of your message? Are you planning anything special?

Cheers,
Iwan
