Wonsan International Air festival, North Korea

Post by P.Terlouw »

I just returned from the Wonsan International Air Festival held in North Korea at Wonsan/Kalma Airport on the eastcoast of North Korea. And what a trip it was!! Although it was mentioned the North Korean Air Force would attend, I was still sceptical about that. But to our surprise 2 MiG-29's, 3 MiG-21's , 5 Su-25's, 3 An-2, 5 MD500 and 4 Mil Mi8/17 were present and most of them flew!!! Also blessed with superb weather and all freedom in photo opportunities I came back with a memory card full of awesome shots.

Here the first "teasers" (can I call it that?)

1. My highlight: MiG-21 Bis and flown by female pilot Jo Kum Hyang

2. MiG-29 pulling some vortex

3. MD500 in front of the new Wonsan/Kalma Airport tower

4. Su-25 flyby with airbrakes extended

5. Air Koryo still flies the awesome Ilyushin Il-62

Some more interesting pictures "just inside North-Korea":

Yep, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is being photographed by North Korean border guards
while Mark Rutte is just inside North Korean territory, but only just.

Ah, excellent again! 8)

Got any more pictures/photos of the "civvy" passenger aircraft :?:
The "civvies" over there are all "GOV/government" anyway, even the illegally-copied Cessna 172s -and the ultralights...
