Polish Aviation Museum Krakow (Picture heavy)

Post by VH3D »

Hi All,

I just finished editing shots from my first visit to Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow. It's a pretty nice museum with 200+ airplanes on display. I took tons of pictures. I will post here few and if you want to see all 152 shots you can go to the album (link at the bottom page).

Since my visit (late October 2017) they have added few more birds. Also, at the time of my visit I had no idea that on the museum grounds (ex East German AF airport) there is active Aviation Police unit. If you are into helicopters go and knock on the door. They have few nice units based there.

very cool! I am a helicopter guy myself (crewmember) so I will definitely look into that when I go. thank you for the tips!

EDIT: What is the name of the Aviation Police unit building, or what can I search on google maps? I can not seem to find the police helicopters. I have found the museum, but do not see any helicopters around it

Look at the H ... left hanger seen from below. 50°4'40.09"N 19°59'24.64"E

They (3) are probably inside.

Yes, that's the place. Hangar without camo roof. There is also a fence, but you can go all the way to the hangar door.

And since you are into helis too, the newest addition is Polish Army Mi-24 V Hind E 739 cn 410739 which in May was getting brand new paint.
So it should be on display by now. That's another reason why I would like to return to that museum.

Actually on my picture of Belgian Mirage, you can see the fence and the silver hangar. So it's right there. When I was there I didn't know about it :(

Interesting. I see 2 Mi-2s and a PZL W-3 in there.

Any idea why 739 is already to an museum? Did it have some kind of incident? I was just at Inowroclaw last month and saw a bunch of their Mi-24Vs including 738 so obviously 739 cant be so old that they are retiring it. Must have been some kind of incident?

There is your answer :) It was at this museum just to get that special paint:)
I had no idea that they do paint jobs at that location for active aircraft.
