Miami-International 22-02-2020

Post by LifelinerOne »

Hej everybody,

work needed me to visit the Fort Lauderdale and Miami-area at the end of February, so I ensured some extra time to do some spotting. It took me a while to sort through all the photos and it took a little longer due to the Corona-outbreak heavily impacted my work and private-life over the last few weeks. Hopefully these pictures are not a memory of what once was and that we can see improvement in the situation soon.

Easiest way to reach Florida was flying to Miami and the day before KLM and Delta brought me to Miami via Atlanta. I arrived in the early hours of the 22nd of February and after several hours of sleep, I made my way to the spot at the El Dorado furniture store at NW 12th St. At this spot you can capture all traffic on runway 09. Normally the wind at Miami is blowing from the east, and runway 09, 12 and 08L/R are then the preferred runways. Spotting is also very much easier when on this configuration.

Here's an impression of the day;

1. When I arrived at the spot, I was greeted by this National B747-400F N919CA, ready to line-up on runway 09:

2. Runway 09 is the preferred runway for the aircraft coming from the Caribbean and South America, like Avianca. A319 N691AV is still flying in the colorful previous livery:
ImageA319-AVI-N691AV-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

3. Swift Air is based at Miami and they are operating a fleet B737s to destinations in South America. Here's title-less B737-400 N458UW on approach:
ImageB734-SWI-N458UW-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

4. A330-200F N332QT of Avianca Cargo is holding before lining-up on runway 09:
ImageA332F-AVI-N332QT-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

5. Miami is a hub of American Airlines. As it was 20 years ago I visited Miami, it was good to catch up on some stuff like this B737-800 N837NN in the oneworld-livery:
ImageB738-AAL-N837NN-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

6. Due to the Corona-virus, Delta is accelerating the phase-out of their MD-88s and MD-90s, so catching a few like this MD-88 N906DE was nice:
ImageMD88-DAL-N906DE-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

7. American Airlines operates several B737-800s in liveries from airlines they took-over in the past. N915NN is wearing the TWA-livery:
ImageB738-AAL-N915NN-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

8. Unfortunately quite white, this Western Global MD-11F N415JN:
ImageMD11F-WGL-N415JN-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

9. Avianca also flies to Miami with their A330s, like this A330-200 N975AV, also still in the old livery:
ImageA332-AVI-N975AV-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

10. The actual livery of Swift Air is quite nice as B737-400 N285XA demonstrates:
ImageB734-SWI-N285XA-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

11. COPA can also be seen several times a day with the B737s, like this B737-800 HP-1844CMP:
ImageB738-COP-HP1844CMP-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

12. Most large Mexican airlines fly to Miami, like AeroMexico, here seen with B737-800 XA-AMJ:
ImageB738-AMX-XAAMJ-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

13. Caribbean Airlines B737-800 9Y-JMF is unfortunately missing the hummingbird on its tail:
ImageB738-CAR-9YJMF-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

14. Rather white Atlas Air B747-8F N859GT ready to line-up on runway 09:
ImageB748F-ATL-N859GT-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

15. Bahamasair flies several times a day, mainly using their B737s, like this B737-700 C6-BFX:
ImageB737-BHS-C6BFX-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

16. Miami is quite the cargo-hub and act as a gate-way for South American cargo en-route to other parts of the world. Ethiopian Cargo B777F ET-ARH is seen here arriving from Quito:
ImageB772F-ETH-ETARH-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

17. Northern Air Cargo is an carrier from Anchorage, Alaska, but operates their B767-300Fs on routes in the Caribbean and South America. Here's N379CX seen on finals:
ImageB763F-NAC-N379CX-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

18. Cayman Airways is still flying the good old B737-300 like this VP-CKW:
ImageB733-CAY-VPCKW-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

19. Familiar livery, but different titles on this Sun Country B737-800 PH-HSK:
ImageB738-SUN-PHHSK-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

20. For me as a photographer, Frontier is always nice because of the different tails. A321 N714FR displays Cubby the bear:
ImageA321-FRN-N714FR-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

21. Most times the European airlines in the afternoon land on runway 12, but today I was lucky as TAP A330-900 CS-TUE shows:
ImageA339-TAP-CSTUE-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

22. Arriving from Rome is Alitalia's A330-200 EI-EJJ:
ImageA332-AZA-EIEJJ-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

23. Always missed this airline when spotting at Madrid, so Boliviana de Aviacion B767-300ER CP-2880 was very welcome:
ImageB763-BOA-CP2880-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

24. LATAM has quite a large operation at Miami, including their own maintenance-hangar. Both passenger and cargo planes, like this B767-300F N540LA, can be seen many times on a day:
ImageB763F-LAT-N540LA-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

25. B737-700 N788XA of AeroMexico is still wearing the old livery:
ImageB737-AMX-N788XA-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

26. Avianca Cargo operates several A330-200Fs in the livery of Tampa Cargo, like this N331QT:
ImageA332F-TMP-N331QT-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

27. Shortly before sunset I toured the cargo and bizjet areas in the Northern part of the airport, I was able to capture this E145 N241BC of cargo carrier IBC:
ImageE145-IBC-N241BC-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

28. As well some of their Saab 340s:
ImageS340-IBC-N671BC-MIA22feb20 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

29. And I and this set with this Eastern Air Lines B767-200ER N603KW:
