Volkel Air Base by Night

Post by Redskin301 »

All,

Here a series from Volkel in the past week. Night flying seemed like a great opportunity for my
try out of the new tripod along the track. The first wave took off from the parallel runway. Here
some pictures of this wave with wonderful light on it. The tripod was then used to film, I will show
that film again later. The second wave was photographed in total darkness. The location was on the
holding area near the fence of the spotter corner. I caught the Falcons with the 70-200mm in a
shutter speed of 15 seconds. Darkness at Volkel is really dark in that corner, so that explains the long
exposure times. I took the last one with 400mm when the two F-16s were between the runways on the
holding spot. Difficult to focus in the dark, so I did that manually. Didn't think it was bad for a first
attempt with this setup. Hopefully the same shots next time, but than with the F-35 in front of the
lens. Secretly the F-16 is much nicer than our newest aircraft ;-)
