Great Gifu C-1!
I cannot really agree on expensive though. The yen has been sinking compared to our currency throughout this century and price levels are, in my experience, comparable to ours. Rental cars are on the cheap side even, accomodation can be had for sharp prices too (business hotels). Food is not expensive, only highway toll can add up fast (but that's to be expected, in a country full of cities and mountains).
Obviously, the big cities are expensive like they are in Europe, but I still have a feeling beer in Tokyo costs less than beer in Paris. 8)

Hi Steef

Wow Surprise :-) It is possible to scan your negatives as well at scancare, so that should not be the problem !

I agree with Erik, at the moment Japan is not more expensive than Europe. With the current exchange rates countries like Japan and USA are very good destinations for a vacation/trip.

That's a very rare C-1 Boeing Crew!

OK, but how about the toll nowadays? I remember paying a truckload of money at the toll boots back in 2002?

And the possible cures are:
- share the cost among travellers
- drive off-highway at night if your schedule permits
- cover really long distances by air (usually a bit cheaper than train and really cheaper than driving  ).

Yeah, tollways are still expensive, but of course the exchange rate still works in your advantage there (it makes the difference between spending a lot and a fortune).

@Erik: driving off-highway is not something you want, unless you get some fetish thoughts by sitting in a car with sweaty mature men... :oho_dev:

Hi Joost and Key

Aah. You too are planning to go back ? Funny, we have the same idea. The only thing is that we want to combine Misawa, Nyatabaru and Hyakuri on a one week trip.

The "flight option" of Erik is quite interesting. If we arrive on a wednesday or thurday and do Misawa before the weekend, than we could air travel on saturday to the south..

Or maybe even get an evening flight from Misawa to Fukuoka to save time.

Hmmmm.... Must look into that.

Is your friend Dam also known as Alf ?
