Cambrai-Epinoy; 31-03-2011

Today we had an excellent visit with EWAS at Cambrai. The weather was grey but dry.
In total we saw 7 Mirages and 5 of them flew missions. But the highlight was the landing
of the French Navy SA-365N Dauphin!!!

People go to a "fast-jet" airbase, and what is the highlight? A slow helicopter...

But nice pictures again Alex! :thumb:

During the visit, this was told
-Cambrai will be closed down in June 2012
-the last Mirage 2000 will leave in April 2012, they will go to Orange
-Cambrai has 19 operational Mirage 2000s, 2 on QRA at Creil, 2 on QRA at Mont-de-Marsan, 3 at QRA at Chad (Thanks Frank, not Djibouti)
-the preparations for the TigerMeet are in full swing, in the EC1/12 area, a containerpark is set-up for all the squadrons.
-whatever happens in the future, the Tiger squadron will remain

Nice shots everybody!

So fortunately the stories that only three local Mirages would be operational are not true. That's a good thing to know with the Tiger Meet in mind! :)

Hello,

Well, I only counted 4 mirages that flew missions: 80, 86, 101 and 122

And then the one in the hangar (107), and the one in the shelter (I think 91)

Or am I wrong?

Well, only 12 mirages based at Cambrai itself, and 4 will leave to Lithuania next week for 4 months, so only 8 will be on base then. I think that 3 jets servicable per day will be right. I don't think they will be able to make more jets servicable, unfortunatly...

Greetings Wim

@ Wim: the Mirage in the shelter was 81/103-LB; unfortunately, you might be right about the rest, although I sincerely hope they can do a bit better than three :|

Hi Wim,

You are wrong about this. France will send Mirage 2000C's from EC5 at Orange.

So 12 Mirage 2000C will stay at Cambrai.

Ciao,
Iwan
