Charles de Gaulle visit (25 images)

Post by lazyweasel »

In January I had the opportunity to spend seven days on board the Charles de Gaulle, sailing from Abu Dhabi to Goa during the 'Agapanthe 2010' deployment. It was my first opportunity to try out the 1D Mk4 and it was worth the wait!!

WOW! :worship:

A very beautiful photoreport and a lot of nice angles. Nr.14 I love the most. The report takes you on board and gives a good inside view of how a carrier is operated on a carrier deck. Well done!!

Grtz,

Edward.

But I bet that had more to do with the location, than with the camera :D
Nice, very nice shots! Number 18 makes me wonder though, is it supposed to take that cable along like that?

The bridal wire drops into the sea following the launch. They used to 'catch' them but now they let them sink at a cost of about 700 Euros a piece!!

I must say, a great report showing the French naval power! Really like the dusk shots... Just one remark, almost all images seem 'frozen' due to the shutterspeed. It's as if the Super Etendard in #23, and the Rafale in #10, are sitting still in mid-air...
However, I know I wouldn't have done it better myself (as I have issues with stability at low shutterspeeds, even with IS) so: good job!

I don't agree. Your remark applies to 99,999% of all in-flight and "moving" aviation pictures. As long as props don't appear frozen in mid-air that is just fine by me. The panning effect you want is nice every once in a while, but it would get boring very fast if every photo would show that effect. I think in-focus backgrounds add to photos rather than take away. But that's my personal opinion ofcourse
