Two days at Brize - heavy (...) topic, mainly mil

Post by Key »

One month ago I spent two days at Brize Norton, hoping to catch the 'queen of the skies' in action once more: at least one VC-10 on a sortie.
A little research made it clear that on average, 2 out of 3 days a VC-10 was flying at Brize - sometimes even two, and often none. Combined with likely unstable autumn weather this was a gamble, but I estimated my chances would only decrease during winter and might suddenly reduce to zero if the RAF decides to withdraw yet another type from use virtually overnight!

As it turned out, this gamble was a good one. Below is the story in pictures, of which there are many. I could not make it complete with less, hope you don't mind.
This series is also a first for me in that I only used Lightroom to process the photos, and I mainly used new hardware.

1. Activity confirmed

2. She's here

3. Main objective met

4. C1K returning from the stormy sky

5. Another impressive size

6. But anything is relative

7. C-17 arriving

8. Powerback

9. Yes!

10. A second queen arriving

11. With a nice additional circuit

12. In crosswind

13. Old Hercs never die

14. Tristar coming home

15. Next day, the show continues

16. Including more C-17 action
Image

17. In brilliant weather
Image

18. Or not
Image

19. And some great visitors!
Image

20. Spotting-wise, my highlight of the year so far
Image

21. Shiny beauty

22. Rolls Royce at work

23. Like the day before, a Sea King did hover checks, then departed.
Image

24. Another very welcome visitor
Image

25. And then, the weather turned into a dream
Image

26. For real

27. Aerodynamics & light

28. If nature wants to, she will let you play

29. And so, we play till the end of day

Thanks to Peter, Sven, Paul and the others for the excellent company!
