Twente (EHTW/ENS) 10-11-2012 [How the base does today]

Post by jeroenvn »

Good evening,

There are probably people on this forum who have seen active airbase Twente.
Especially for those people I have made some pictures, how it is to be in the year 2012.
I was in the neighborhood and thought let me take some pictures of the base

How to get close to the base? Follow the signs :D

This is a hangar, I guess?

I have the base 1 time, when I was 13.
that was the open days of the Air Force
The weather was not really nice, but I did my best.

P.S. The photos are not on my site

Jaaa, love it!!! Nostalgic and sad at the same time. I didn't visit Twente all that much during my spotting carreer, but I loved looking through the monthly movements in Scramble Magazine. I recall Harrier GR.3/T.4's of the Gütersloh squadrons being frequent visitors to Twente. I also remember visiting Twente for the first time, being amazed about how close you could get to the runway and taxiway. Walking along the fence where 315 Sqn's F-16's did the last checks before entering runway 24. That was a VERY close view, you could feel the heat of the engines. 313 Sqn was still flying the NF-5 at that time in '86. Some 'CR' Eagles visited for approaches, I couldn't be happier. Great memories with my dad, mom and brother. 8)

I can only imagine what Twente's closure meant to the spotters that live close to the base. It changed your daily life, I guess. Who knows what will happen to Eindhoven's military status in the next years...

Regards,

Stephan

It really changed my daily life.....
Working in shifts gave me the opportunity to visit almost daily (if I wanted to)
But with nice weather or planned visitors, I could go spotting a couple of hours.
On Twenthe or Hopsten with was within 45 minutes drive..but that is over.

I like to spot helicopters, so Bentlage was often the target the last 7 years...yes it's 7 years ago that 313 left the building!!
It's also 7 years ago that the phantom flyout took place at Hopsten...
Next year the CH-53's will leave Bentlage...again an airfield gone....

Hard times for spotters in the east....but with a little planning and info from yhe internet the hobby will go on!!

Looking forward for next year!!

Grtz Rene
