The Danube flood and 3 Mi-8/Mi-17

Post by Levente »

In Hungary the Danube is going to break a lot of records, and for that a lot of work is needed at the dams. The HUAF sent 4 helis (1 was as a reverse at Pápa AFB) to help. The pilots started their routine pre-check at 3 o'clock in the morning and started their work at the first sunlight, around 5. My last photo was taken at around 13:30 and the 3 helis were still working, only stopping for refuel!

Great pics! Is that a former Finnish Mi-8, transferred to Hungary and still wearing the same color scheme?

Yes...Hungary received two ex-Finnish Mi-8T in 2011, freely. And since the color scheme turned out to be "useful" in the country's terrain, no repaint was needed.

True...that is a civilian Mi-2, but it was under the Ministry of Home Affairs command. It was usually at reserve and/or transfering VIP's and scout flying around the dams.
