There also the rumour that the ship will be present during the Navy Days in Den Helder, July 11-14.

Reminds me of the story I heard about the exercise Brilliant Mariner a few years ago..... The states bring their own tent nowadays, I think.

You're quite right. Most naval vessels carry a tent, wich covers the flightdeck. As the inside space on board is not sufficient to receive great numbers of persons for RPC's aso, these festivities are held on the flighdeck. The tents in most of the navies are white, ivo summerconditions.

Since the withdraw of the Sea Sprite there hasn’t been any chopper stationed on the Elrod any more... The hangars are too small to fit a hawk according to a crewmember last Sunday at Zeebrugge.

According Wikipedia (one may say how reliable this source is) only the short holl version of this type class does not have a chopper onboard, the long hull versions can carry a Sea Hawk.

By the way this type is also in use by the Polish Navy, and guess which chopper they have aquired for ship duties...the Sea Sprite.

I don't think there is any discussion if this ship can carry a Sea Sprite, Thijs. When the States were flying Sea Sprites they used it from this ship, as a crewmember told one of the forummembers. The discussion is: can it carry a Sea Hawk?

As the crewmember told, it can't carry a Seahawk. In my opinion the discussion then can't reach the status of which Seahawk is onboard. For me the crewmember made it clear at Zeebrugge there won't be one onboard.

Just some background information. I was interested of all ships of this particular ship class could not carry a Seahawk. Could be useful information when such a ship type calls again in a port.

I never doubt about the statement that this particular ship can not carry a Seahawk. It was just curiosity.

The following site makes it al clear...http://www.experiencefestival.com/a/Oli ... id/5349749
FFG-7 class ships were produced in 445 foot (136 m) "short-hull" (Flight I)and 455 foot (139 m) "long-hull" (Flight III)variants. The long-hull ships (FFG 8, 28, 29, 32, 33, 36-61) carry the SH-60 Seahawk LAMPS III helicopters, while the short-hull units carry the less-capable SH-2 Seasprite.
The Elrod is actually a long-hull (FG-55)... So the knowledge of the crewmember is not very high I suppose...

But one thing is a fact: There is unfortunately no chopper onboard the Elrod...

Taken from the US Navy site:
Aircraft: Two SH-60 (LAMPS III) in FFG 8, 28, 29, 32, 33, 36-61
One SH-2 (Lamps Mk-I) in FFG 9-19, 30, 31.

So according to the USN she is able to take 2 SH-60's with her, but as said right now there is not one  .
