Departure VC-10 erg goed te horen vanuit badhoevedorp ETD 21:55.

Erg jammer van de baanverandering op het laatste moment iedereen stond klaar met zijn camera :cry:

VC-10 (zéér goed) gehoord rond 21:59 dichtbij leiden. Was te laat om mijn camera te pakken :( zag hem nog net achter een wolk verdwijnen :evil:

Tell me about it....., all settled after initially going to 27 but being advised she would turn up at 18R so turned around... What a bummer to see this beauty coming in from accross the airfield at the runway I just left from.

:cry:

Wonder why she apparently was the only bird to land at 27 at that time while all other aircraft landed at 18R ??

I couldn't come tonight :( but i think why they put him on 27 is that they needed too quickly off load him and let him take off ASAP... ??? (could anybody confirm this or was there another reason?)
that's my thought about it...

what i heard when he switched to Approach, was that the controller was a little bit surprised about his visit. He asked to his intentions, and they said a medical flight (i guess the wounded soldiers out of Afghanistan). The VC10 requested some ambulances and said he had two stretchers. After this conversation the controller directed him to 27 (because of medical reasons...?). During departure there were also some problems with the flight plan. Looks to me the flight wasn't prepared well.

This is just my interpretation, heard during driving so not fully attention for listening to the scanner.

Probably because of the fastest and shortest taxiing route: distance from the end of the runway to parking spot (and possibly also to give us all a run-around :evil: )

Wellicht heeft het ermee te maken dat de 18R wel erg afgelegen is voor het geval er iets "medisch" aan de hand is...

Flight was indeed a medical flight as 2 persons where moved from the aircraft, on stretchers, into ambulances.
See no reason why this flight was not well prepared as her arrival was know way in advance. Assume arrival on 27 had to do with sound limitations as this is a noisy bird and as for departure, seemed all outbound traffic moved to 18L at just that time so it seemed it was no more then just a general change of runway.

A few things I can add...

Choice of 27 is definitely not because of noise: 27 is one of the most sensitive of all arrival runways and runways are not assigned to aircraft for noise on an individual basis.

The flight plan had been in the system for hours, both in and outbound, both as RRR2341. If there was any confusion about that, it must have been either due to the delay, the double use of the callsign (not uncommon though) or perhaps slot times.

Controllers do not usually ask flights what the nature of their visit is. A controller does not mind (for his work that is ;)) whether A332 KLM452 or VC10 RRR2341 is approaching. So if they do ask, this is usually per request of the airport authorities or after indication by the flight crew (on a previous frequency) or the operator (by phone). I assume one of these was the case here, with the announced medical status and late runway change as a result.

Too bad for everyone ready to shoot the arrival of this beautiful bird... :(

@ Ernesto, what kind of log is that, SBS? Because the mentioned ROTOP is a point only used for visual helicopter ops to/fr EHHA.

Last I heard was that flight was allowed to land on 27 as there has been a miscommunication between ATC and crew: ATC understood medical flight as being a flight with a medical urgency on board and thus granted the aircraft to land following emergency procedures, whereas flight carried few injured people that were under medical care but did no longer clasified as medical urgency.

Anyway, it's a pitty it went this way, but still many people have been able to see this rare bird al be it not in the most picture perfect way...

Thanks to all keeping us informed on these movements !! It's better to know up front then to learn afterwards........ (but next time, could someone tell ATC as well, so they know it too ?? :eureka: )
