waiting/ photo possibilities at Warsaw, Zurich and Rome?

Post by Polecat »

Suppose I have to choose at what airport I will spend my transfer-waiting time.
Are there good photo-opportunities(for me) and sleeping/resting facilities (girlfriend) at Zurich, Warsaw and Rome?

@ Zurich you can visit the terrace and even do some tours over the ramps and other intressting tours. (Only on wednesday and the weekends!)

Very kind folks there, I went to there last year and I wanted to see the Thai and Singapore heavy's taking off from the runway crossing, so they did the tour the other way around so I could get some killer action shots.

There is enough to do at Zurich when you have a stopover.

Morning time is the best in Warsaw.

You have 3 places to taking a photo.
1) View terrace: ticket costs 4 PLN (about 1 Euro.).
examples:
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.php?album=12&pos=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - view at one of two gates, which are located below the terrace.
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.ph ... =12&pos=22" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - vis a vis terrace are 5 ? (6?) parking stand.
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.ph ... =12&pos=25" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - after P/B from gate.
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1302023/L/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

2) Place in front of yet inactive terminal 2's departure hall. There you can see every plane at military apron, and part of civil apron.
examples:
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.php?album=12&pos=8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - military apron
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.ph ... 0&pos=-229" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.ph ... =12&pos=11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.ph ... =12&pos=32" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.ph ... =12&pos=26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1209537/L/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

3) A little walk to wirażowa street (it takes about 15 minutes, only if in use are runways 33A/29D - standard configuration.) There you can take a photos like this:
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.php?album=12&pos=2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://zdunekphotos.net/displayimage.php?album=12&pos=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1293424&size=L" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or if the weather will be very cold, you can also take a pics during deicing at apron10 (it's the same place):
http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1310923&size=L" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1295237&size=L" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1137026/L/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and some photos taken by my friend - Jan Ostrowski:
http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1307203&size=L" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1288776/L/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you will'be intrested of more detailed info about every place, I will try to help you.

Sorry for my english.

ZRH is, im terms of spotting facilities, one of the best airports in Europe in my opinion. The terrace offers great views, and a bus tour is recommended. Also, busses go to the other terminal where there is a smaller spotting area. You can almost touch the SIA and Thai planes when you're there. Good luck!

Thanx for the info and tips guys...
After a frustrating night behind the online booking sites (last day before the ecotax, so very slow sites...) we decided to go for the Zurich option.. will have to kill 4,5 hours there, but I think that won't be a big problem :-)
Would love to go to Warsaw some time as well though...
