Hi F17_119PM,

Very nice list of activities at Orange; was there some kind of exercise? Can you confirm that Mirage 2000C 13/5-NM and 20/5-OB were both flying? It has been a long time that these two were seen and I still need them both! (I will visit Orange in april this year so hopefully... ).

Thanks in advance!

Correct, it was the annual exercise Chef de Mission, from Scramble 342 onwards, it was mentioned in the hard copy version of the SIS Sum.

The problem with most French exercise is that it is very unclear what kind of exercise it is and what to expect. Chef de Mission is an exception, just like EMS, PCAT how they called it today.

'Chef de Mission' was also in the SIS emails of Martin Herbert since ~october/november 2007.
Only it was related to a german tornado unit, that eventually didn't show up if I see the list of participants....

Good morning!

Yes, it was "Chef de Mission".
First, German F-4 should participate, then Tonis from Lechfeld. Finaly, nothing participate from Germany ...

The first week, 2 Belgian F-16 were present. Also unfortunately only the first days, 2 Etendard participated.

Mirage 2000 #13 was seen on the appron.
Mirage 2000 #20 was flying!

But anyway a very nice list.
Is "chef de Mission" everytime at a different base? I visited the 1 at St. Dizier in 2006.

Orange 8 May 2008 (incl. F-2000C Forca Aerea Brasileira)

During my holiday in France, I visited Orange.
A lot of A/C flew multiple missions on that day. Also some visitors came in. In the afternoon two Brazilian F-2000C departed for a local training sortie and came back for a formation landing. It looks like the QRA is done by cambrai mirages, because it was in full EC01.012 1 Esc. Markings.
The numbers are:

Mirage 2000B :
506 (5-OD)
510 (5-OQ)
515 (5-OG)
519 (5-OW)
530 (5-OL)

Mirage 2000C :
20 (5-OB)
82 (12-YL) QRA

Visitors:

Alpha Jet:
E59 (314-LY)
E127 (7-FK)

Falcon 900:
3x NO serial on A/C

F-2000C Forca Aerea Brasileira:
4946 (46) :D :D
4947 (47) :D :D

So go for them during the openday 18 May.

Orange is a very nice field to photograph. They will follow later on my site

We do! One or two should be at the static display. I heard something that the Brazilians have their "own" hangar at Orange. Someone who can confirm and know where it is situated.

Hi Hans,

If you take a look at http://www.scramble.nl/airports/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Spot 3 is good. Planes will be above the fence in take off.

About Spot 1: If you drive from this spot back to Orange the road will make a left turn. In that turn you can go to the right. Follow that road untill you will see the QRA shelters. From there you can make very nice pictures of planes landing.

We were there two days some weeks ago. Had one visitor (Tigre) and a few flight a day. Not a very busy place.

Albert
