Spotting at Chateaudun

Post by Lightning937 »

I will be in France in June this year and am looking at the possibility of visiting Chateaudun. I know airframes can be seen from the outside every day of the week as there are several stored/retired airframes visible.

I would like to know what the police attitude to spotters is and how do spotters get around the CANOPEE Museum?

Many thanks for any information/tips/advice given.

Regarding the museum , they seem happy to show round individuals or groups if you write well in advance. Certainly last July the air force guys were very friendly on the visit.

As for the rest, there are clearly large numbers of aircraft in the storage and scrapping areas ( or there were last summer ) most of which has been around for some years. They are being slowly scrapped but what is extant at any given date is more difficult. The scrap compound requires a long walk along the fence and I suppose after that it is pot luck if you get stopped or not. Friday seemed a very quiet day with the base closing at lunchtime so that may help.

Periodically groups do seem to gain full visits so I would go for it and ask. If all else fails there could be an Open Day next year, they are due one. Hope this helps
