Swartkop AFB (FASK) 04.05.2016

Post by Bennie »

On the last day of my family holiday in the RSA (which I can highly recommend to everyone! 8) ) my son and I went to Swartkop to visit the museum. Although I'd been there twice before I was hoping for some new stuff. The museum website unfortunately didn't mention the fact that the museum was closed due to construction work for about 2 months
We went up to the Air Force memorial which is located on a hill at the far end of the main runway hoping to see some activity.
Luckily, rehearsals for the airshow which will take place on the 7th were going on and even more luckily, we met both the Base Commander and the Air Force Chief of staff there and the General made sure we got in after all.
From the hill we saw a Kudu and a Vampire practising a display, and upon leaving the museum we saw 6 Pilatus PC-7s arrive (numbers 1 thru 5 plus an unmarked example).

if anyone can provide their numbers you will make me a happy man!

The Swartkop Museum is temporary closed until further notice due to major construction work on the airbase. The works should be finished around mid-August. Please take a look at the website of the friends of the South Afrika Airforce Museum before you visit the museum. Info: http://saaffriends.co.za/index.htm

The AFB museum is still closed. The reconstruction work should be finished before the end of the year. Please take a look at the website of the friends of the South Afrika Airforce Museum before you visit the museum. Info: http://saaffriends.co.za/index.htm. Every first saterday of each month, there are local and pleasure flights with the local based planes and helicopters, like vampires, harvards, alouettes.
