Spotting Israel

Post by Sukhoi22 »

Hello everyone,

Last week I was for a holiday trip to Israel last week and saw the following:
In the Negev I saw more flying action than in North Israel.

Caesarea:
PA-30 4X-CAO Civil flying

21-9
I saw some military helo's flying above the home of Ben Gurion and a Kibbutz:
OH-58 126 FTS
AB-206 019 FTS
AB-206 012 FTS
S-70A 542 NB
and a lot more when I was in a bus.

22-9
Tel Aviv airport.
B-707 4X-JYX?
B-747 4X-AXA

On the military side I saw 10+ mirages/kfirs, A-4 skyhawks, 2 Mig-21 and 1 F-16. I tried to photograph, but a lot of heatwaves not so good. Any more details?

One question for spotting in Israel. Is it permitted to spot some planes in the landing not in the area of an airbase?

Permitted is one thing, possible is another.
Out of experience (Hatzor, Tel Nof, Hatzerim) it is possible, if you keep your distance.
Stay a few hundred meters from the fence and keep it low profile

Back in '94 I spotted at Ramat David (and Hazerim, Ben Gurion, Haife Sde Dov and Ufda) sitting with my back against the fence with a big telescope noting down numbers. Didn't have any problems. Nobody cared back then. I'am afraid times changed a little with the joys of the religion of peace

Hello Mr Moderator, isn't this a little off topic even for the tattle lounge, let alone a "Spotting" forum, especially when historically Israel has been in Scramble's Middle East (IATAs Europe btw). "Great terrorist actions weekly" might be a better place, no?

In answer to the original question, before the politicians took over, spotting in Israel is akin to Italy of the 70s and 80s, or Greece since then. Do your stuff and move on if you are near a base, or if you have time, go to one of the C-130 or Helo operating zones with a good book, plenty of bottled water and a high factor suncream.

Agree, so just spotters info here and rest moved to here

(Neglecting that Tattle Lounge is meant as a fun area...)

In the early 80-ies I participated in an exchange program with the RAF. I was there together with an Isreali who was in training to become a fighter pilot. He was very surprised by all the info we knew about the IAF. Most things he was not allowed to speak about (how many aircraft, which bases etc). On all the pictures he had with him, the squadron roundels on the aircraft tails were still erased by the censor.
