EASA orders service life recalculation of Global 5000/6000 parts

07 November, 2018

Europe's safety regulator is proposing to order certain Bombardier Global 5000 and 6000 operators
to recalculate the service life of low-pressure compressor discs and
other parts after raising concerns over engine rotor speed variations.

Flight data from aircraft fitted with particular Rockwell Collins avionics and autothrottle systems
have shown a "significant oscillation"
of the engine rotor revolution speed during cruise flight,
says the European Aviation Safety Agency.

The business jets are powered by Rolls-Royce Deutschland BR710A2-20 engines.

EASA says the phenomenon affects
the service life of particular components and could conceivably result in
failure of such components and
the ejection of high-energy debris.

Mentioned P-AD -> link
I'm wondering why this is a news item, on FlightGlobal after all. There are AD's issued on a daily basis for potentially unsafe conditions. They even give a 250 FC or 12 months compliance period, I've seen a lot worse AD's that didn't made it to the news.

To illustrate, the Emergency AD just released by the FAA following the Lion air 610 crash requires changes within 3 days from now.

Bombardier has secured US type certification for the Global 7500,
and is preparing the ultra-long-range business jet for service entry before year-end.

The approval comes six weeks after the company's flagship received Canadian approval,
capping a two-year flight-test campaign that saw over 2,700h logged by five aircraft.

The GE Aviation Passport-powered aircraft was launched in 2010 as the Global 7000.

It was rebranded in May to reflect a 300nm (560km) jump in maximum operating range during flight testing to 7,700nm.

This market-leading figure opens new,
nonstop city pairs,
such as New York-Hong Kong and Singapore-San Francisco.

The Global 7500 also has the longest cabin in the market
at 16.5m (54ft) – about 2.5m longer than its closest competitor, the Gulfstream G650ER

Bombardier says the $75 million aircraft is sold out through 2021,
which represents an order backlog of around 110 aircraft.

Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) has reaffirmed its commitment to Gulfstream’s G280 program.

Under its agreement with Gulfstream,
IAI builds the G280 in Israel and then flies the aircraft to Gulfstream’s Dallas facility
where the interior is completed, and the exterior is painted.

From there the aircraft is delivered directly to its customer.

IAI had the same agreement in place with Gulfstream for the G150,
but production of that aircraft was terminated by Gulfstream recently.

According to a recent article on Israel’s Globes news website,
IAI had been considering closing one of its manufacturing plants
that is building parts for the G280 program as part of its internal restructuring plan.

However, an IAI spokesperson says that it is committed to the G280 program and
that any future strategic initiatives that it is considering all involve still building the aircraft.

In a statement issued to Corporate Jet Investor,
the company said “IAI would like to clarify that it is fully committed to its partnership with Gulfstream
and to the G-280 project.
The company does not and never did consider
discontinuing the production of the G280.

IAI will continue to fulfill its part in the collaboration in the best way possible.”

“Concurrently, IAI is in the process of evaluating a range of future strategic initiatives in all its operations,
including civilian ones.
No decisions have been taken yet,”

Gulfstream and IAI began the design process of the G280 in 2005 as the update to the Gulfstream G200.

The first aircraft was delivered in November 2012.
So far over 120 G280s have been delivered.

Qatar Airways places US$1bn Gulfstream order

Qatar Airways announced a significant order for 18 Gulfstream aircraft
during a ceremony at the White House.

The event was witnessed by sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar,
and United States president, Donald Trump.

The order worth over $1 billion
is for 14 Gulfstream G650ER and
four Gulfstream G500
and will add to Qatar Executive’s growing fleet that currently includes six G650ER and four G500 aircraft.

Qatar Airways Group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, said:
“Qatar Airways is very pleased to confirm this landmark deal with Gulfstream.

“Our corporate jet division, Qatar Executive,
goes from strength to strength and this commitment to new orders
will allow us to offer our bespoke luxury service to even more passengers.”

Qatar Executive has been a Gulfstream customer since October 2014,
when the charter service was announced as the international launch customer for the all-new G500
as part of a large fleet agreement that included the G650ER.

Since that time, Qatar Executive has progressively increased their Gulfstream orders.

This latest one, for a mixed fleet of large-cabin aircraft valued at over $1 billion,
further builds on the airline’s efforts to expand the Gulfstream cabin experience around the world.

To date, Gulfstream has delivered six G650ER and four G500 aircraft to Qatar Executive,
including the first two international deliveries of the G500 in December 2018.

Qatar Agrees to Buy U.S. Aircraft, Engines, Defense Equipment

‎9‎ ‎juli‎ ‎2019‎ ‎20‎:‎52 Updated on ‎9‎ ‎juli‎ ‎2019‎ ‎22‎:‎00

Qatar has made agreements with U.S. companies
to spend billions on airplanes and jet engines and
to develop a petrochemical complex, the White House said on Tuesday.

At least some of the deals were previously made
but were publicly touted by the Trump administration Tuesday.

Among them: Qatar Airways purchasing Boeing Co. 777 freighters and
large-cabin aircraft from Gulfstream Aerospace,
the private jet unit of General Dynamics Corp.

Gulfstream said its deal is for $1 billion
in corporate jets that General Dynamics announced in January without giving the customer’s name.
