The BEA (French Air Accident Investigation Branch) released this photo of the CVR.
The memory-module is located in the cylinder, which is in a good state.

Germanwings Pilot Was Locked Out of Cockpit Before Crash in France.

As officials struggled Wednesday to explain why a jet with 150 people on board crashed in relatively clear skies, an investigator said evidence from a cockpit voice recorder indicated one pilot left the cockpit before the plane’s descent and was unable to get back in.

This raises some questions after reading the NY Times article, doesn't it :?

indeed,
this raises some questions, espacially about the realibility of the article of the new york times in my opinion :)

I see three procedures....

When the last "emergency" procedure is followed by the pilot not flying (PNF) wich wanted go back to the cockpit, and the Pilot Flying (PF) in the cockpit answered it to switch the button to "lock" , the door can still not be openend from the outside. The 5 second option is only when the PF is NOT answering on the calls. If he was, the 5 second option will not work....

So if (read carefefully, i stated IF!!) Suicide is the reason, the PF could simple lock the door so the PNF could never came in....

you could be right of course but in the video (if you've seen it completely) they talk about a code witch can be overridden wen the pilots are in trouble (for example unconscious) and then the door will be unlocked for 5 seconds.
But anyway, I was thinking out loud, as we are speculating, the journalists are as well

Well, I have seen the video completely 2 times, and as far I can see or hear is the overridden code can obe been used when the pilots are not answering or anything. The door will then open AFTER 30 seconds for the time of 5 seconds. If the overridden code is entered and the PF in the cockpit activates the "Lock" switch in those 30 seconds, the door will NOT be opened after those 30 seconds.

So If the PF was alive, and he didnt want the door could be openend form outside the cokcpit, he simply turned the switch to "locked" during tjhe 30 seconds after the crew behind the door pressed the override code.

Meantime the Public Prosecutor in Marseille confirmed that indeed only the co-pilot was in the cockpit at the time of the accident.
The captain went to the lavatory and the co-pilot knowingly kept him outside!

Investigators said the crash seems a deliberate act by copilot, who started the descend and was conscious but silent until impact. Passenger apparently in final moments realized what was happening. Horrific.
Answers will be questioned.....

Going to the lavatory, shortly before, during of just after just 8 (?) minutes airborne, (and before? just ONE (?) minute at max. FL?
How's that for being common or uncommon?

what is your point Glidepath? That the captain deliberately left the cockpit under the false pretense of having to go to the toilet, so the co-pilot could crash the plane? The moment he went to the toilet has nothing to do with it. If he'd gone after the plane had been at cruising altitude for a longer time, the co-pilot could still have done what he allegedly did.

According to this, it would mean the pilot went to the lavatory during the time the plane was at 38000. I am not a pilot, but I suspect that after reaching your cruising altitude the 'quiet' part of your flight starts.
The flight was airborne at approx 8:52, descent was started at 9:30.. it was at 38000 for about 3 minutes. and airborne for more then 30 minutes.

And, if the pilot didn´t need to go to the lavatory?
Would then the copilot wait for his next flight to do what he did? A little bit strange, isn´t it?
