according to a Dutch newspaper, an Emirates Boeing 777, reported elsewhere as A6-EMW and coming from India, is/was on fire after an emergency landing at Dubai.

Seems nobody died... A miracle off course. But the frames can have a lot of impact (look at the BA or OZ crash).

Some very clear pictures of it in the A.net thread as well: http://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopi ... &t=1339493
Registration readable and certainly a write off.

Eventually it has transpired somehow a firefighter/brandweerman died during this incident.

An Emirates plane has crash-landed at Dubai International Airport.
All 300 people on board were able to escape from the burning aircraft, but a firefighter was killed.

Emirates chairman Ahmed bin Saeed paid tribute to the firefighter who lost his life fighting the blaze.

Seen the WhatsApp video that was posted in the BBC link? The subtitle says 'panic' in the cabin, still people get their trolleys and stuff out of the overhead bins... DURING AN EVACUATION!

:-) yeah, that too. Well at least the guy/girl go a lot of attention, his/her 15 minutes of fame. That it increased his/her chances of being fried alive probably did not cross his/her mind.

Allegedly the passengers were in the process of retreiving their hand baggage prior to any instructions from the cabin crew.

The cabin crew then promptly ordered people off the jet minus any baggage, and in most or all cases, they complied.

Either way, the Emirates cabin crew did an outstanding job in getting everyone off a full jet.

The footage on you tube of pax. walking away from the BA triple at Las Vegas or the Asiana one at SFO with their wheelie bags and taking selfies of the burning jets sticks in the mind.
Drink treble
See double
Act single

and the Emir called up his jet fighters

this article shows ATC recordings.
doesn't clear anything up for me personally though...

there were speculations about a go around and on the second attempt a crash, but that's not the case if i see what's been said in the recordings.
cause remains a mistery if you ask me...

you guys have another view?

I have read/seen/heard two plausible theories, but I have no idea what is true.
1) plane came in for landing, landed too hard (possibly due to wind shear) and went through its landing gear
2) plane had already problems with landing gear before landing, declared emergency and crash landed

Some reports state that they indeed asked for a go around, others state that passengers mentioned the pilot already declared the emergency landing on approach over the intercom. Again, no idea what is true.

A pilot never "asks" for a go around... He just does, based on the situation.

Have a look at this:

It looks like he initiated a go-around: "521 continue straight, climb to 4000ft".
