Flankers 5 foot from RC-135

Post by hammarö »

CNN mention Flankers disturbing RC-135 activity in Baltic close to Kaliningrad in international water.
But the strange is that CNN show a picture of a Chinese Flanker. Very disturbing. If you look at the CNN news you get the impression that Chinese Flankers were in Baltic.
http://edition.cnn.com/2017/06/20/polit ... index.html

Flightradar shows RC-135 with transponders on making avoidance manouvers from Flankers (or fighters) with transponders off. The RC-135 are followed by friendly fighters. Both RC-135W (USAF and RAF) are very busy as RC-135U.

Other sources also mention some Chinese naval ships left China last sunday for exercises in Baltic. It looks for me very strange. At least one modern SAM destroyer and one frigate on way to Baltic claim the sources.

We'll see if they cross the Storebelt or the Oresund. Only then I believe they're there.

I lock at the swedish site oplatsen everyday. They are updated of important things in Baltic and over world arenas.

https://twitter.com/oplatsen

But we have always to watch after the fake news.

But we have still the Flanker question! The pictures of Chinese Flankers on CNN. This must be something of a very wrong picture. Or are they expecting Chinese Flankers in area? Chinese have earlier participated in Flanker exercises from Lipetsk.

Today called the Swedish foreign ministry after the Russian ambassadour. He have to answer on questions of a very tight Flanker passage close to Swedish sigint plane S-102 Korpen (Raven) over international water last monday.

The same Flankers also do the same thing against the RC-135W and RC-135U over Baltic. (Newly also a US UAV from Sigonella).

The Russian also use their spy planes in area without disturbing of dangerous flying from our QRA.

If you define " new" as very recent as in weeks that is not the case.
This is done for over a year now. First logs are from April 2016 (that I could find), always flying via overhead France & Germany to the baltics.
If memory serves me well, the passage overhead France was or is always notamed but I can not recall the ICAO to search for.

Don't know why the USAF and RAF RC-135 have to sniff around almost every day along the coast of Kalingrad almost every day. It's like they want to provoke a conflict, as I can not imagine there is so much new informationnto gather every day ...

And the French, Swedish, German, Polish and so on.

The most important is to update the orbat, the signal library (signature) for each Russian headquarter, vehicle, radar, aircraft, SAM etc. New S-400 etc. I suppose NATO (and US) have a common library.

And also to listen on the communications for the military, police, political parties and so on. Source Fulghrum author in Aviation Week and Space Technology with articles about the RC-135 and EP-3E. The RC-135 and EP-3E had the same capability. I have copies from at least 20 years ago.

I forget the EP-3E. During the past they have lot of presence in the Baltic, flying from Rota. EP-3E followed the naval traffic (signals). Now overtaken by the RC-135?

The RC-135 is updated to look at the mobil cell phones. Especially cell phone nets. Much talk that the software is made by Israel, now US companies. This very secret place as the electronic equipment in the RC-135 types must be.

During the beginning of the Ukrainan war much information leaking coming on listening of communications between Ukraine (Russian forces) and Russian commanders. They were eager to prove that the Russia invaded Ukraine this way.

One other possibility for the sigint is to look at the Russian Armys signal- and sigint vehicles (including air defence vehicles). They have to change the old vehicles because most of the Russian vehicles and sigint equipment are made by Ukraine (and Czech). Especially forthe US Armys sigint aircraft.

US are eager to improve the sigint capability of RQ-4, now flying in Ukraine and in Baltic, as northern Africa.

The capability of each aircraft is a top secret.

Compare it with the childrens sandpit. A very dangerous situation, as the Russian pilots are commanded to fly aggressively.

The question is how good are the Russian spyplanes?

Picture of the air "meeting" between the Swedish S-102 Korpen (Raven) and the Su-27 Flanker, red 24.
On the left are the S-102 wing visible.
The Russian red 24 must come from Besovets or Khotilovo air bases, as the Chkalovsk borts are over 90 red.

Back in the Cold War era, U-2s (TR-1s) out of Alconbury were doing the same every day... Some things never change....

In the cold war era we had the EC-121 and the EC-97 who daily flew they sigint missions. One type of mission was to fly against a spy ground station and command stations. They flew against the spy station were they could "mirror" it. Certainly they are doing the same today. Russia have at least one large automatic spy station each at Pskov, Kaliningrad and the Taman peninsula. Plus several ground stations (sigint vehicles sniffing the border, ie Narva). To listen on the electronic transmissions from the military aircraft you have to be very close.

Also don´t forget the shooting down of the Malaysian civil airliner. A detailed record of the voice replay of the contact between the Russian forces in Ukraine and Russia military command. Who record it?

Russia is very eager to show that they have spy aircraft. They even use Tu-214 flying along the border with transponder on.

Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) is the reason I guess.. Information w/ regards to radar frequencies and info is very valuable..
