I don't get it. Why only 5? They bought 40 once, but those are mostly on the ground. Would make sense to buy a few more......

They bought 14 back in the 80s, not 40 :-)
A few have crashed and the survivors have been grounded for a few years; overhauling them is more expensive than buying a few ex Aeronavale aircraft, which are upgraded as well, contrary to the original 14.... money is a factor here.

10 SUE are currently stored.
This planes will be upgraded and brought again in service.

Just saw a video on the Instagram of 'sergio.garcia.pedroche' , that Super Etendard #44 was at least taxing yesterday.

Still with 44 on the belly and French colours, part of the tail with the Argentine flag and in white letters 'Armada' on the fuselage.

Well they do like to waste their money!
Perhaps it would have been better spent on something useful like transports or helicopters....
