Boeing pitches OV-10X Bronco for USAF light attack
Boeing confirms it has proposed building new OV-10s with upgraded avionics and weapons for the US Air Force light attack contract.

Boeing provided the photo above, providing a glimpse of the new OV-10 concept. The image will surely be embraced by the Bronco's devoted following, who remember the aircraft's notably effective service in the Vietnam War.

The OV-10 could face competition from other Vietnam-era light attack aircraft, such as the Piper Aircraft PA-48 Enforcer. A new class of turboprop fighter-trainers, such as the AT-6 and the Embraer Super Tucano are also vying for the contract. Alenia, meanwhile, plans to offer the jet-powered M346 trainer.

Boeing inherits the OV-10 Bronco's design rights from its purchase in the 1980s of North American Rockwell, the aircraft's original manufacturer.

Now, that would be cool! Although my first guess would be that the AT-6 has the best chance of winning this competition.

Sure not! Although the AT-6B has been listed, the USAF is more keen on the EMBRAER Super Tucano. However, the return of the OV-10(X) is more then welcome, always liked that aircraft

Maybe, but remember that the USAF also favored the Airbus 330 tanker...

I think the Korean A-50 has also a good chance...being basically a small F-16 it can refuelled in the air something the others can't..

time will tell...it is however a nice addition no matter which aircraft they choose!

I think this is a little different.... the USAF is looking for a proven design; the Super Tucano is a well proven aircraft in the role that USAF is looking for; close aircombat/COIN. The (A)T-6B is not even tested as such, and original designed for training purpose. The OV-10 as in the past (Vietnam, 1st Gulf War) is a proven concept. Sure the AT-6 would be looked at, but I can hardly belief that the people who have to fly in combat will choose that plane above other contenders. I like the Bronco, and would go for that...... if not, the A-29 Super Tucano is the best option. I don't think that a jet powered aircraft would seriously considered....

Well, "Buy American" is a popular phrase in these days of financial turmoil. Besides that, the T-6 is well known within the USAF and economies of scale might apply. Again, time will tell.

I thought US Navy was also testing the Super Tucano because they have the need for a new "Skyraider" (tip for Boeing: why not launch an A-1X concept )

Brilliant idea. Big, mean turboprop Skyradier Although I think there may be a few issue with the taildragger setup, maybe reintroduce the Cub as training aircraft
