Australia wants 24 MH-60R Sea Hawk Multi-Mission helicopters.

Gary Parsons - 12-Jul-2010

July 12: The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress on July 7 of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Australia of 24 MH-60R Sea Hawk multi-mission helicopters and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support for an estimated cost of $2.1 billion (€1.7 billion).

The helicopters are required to fulfill the Royal Australian Navy's requirement for a new Anti-Submarine Warfare platform – it was thought that the NH90 was in contention for the bid, but this request by the Australian government may mean that a decision has now been made.

Perhaps the Aussies don't want to wait another 10 years for the delivery of NH90s which won't come near their performance specifications for another 5 years after delivery.

Not a surprising choice, considering that all 11 MRH-90 delivered so far are grounded since April after an in-flight engine failure.
