On some other forums, rumours said that the 81st will be one of the squadrons axed. So if it's true, no more European A-10's, and Spangdahlem will only host some 30 F-16's. Let's hope it's just rumours, but I fear the worst.

There is also rumour going around concerning the 81st FS that they will move to Lakenheath and one of the Strike Eagle squadrons should be moving to Osan AB, Korea.
Let's wait and see what the next round of BRAC will bring.

163rd FS (ANG)
184st FS (ANG)

One wonders if the reserve component units losing A-10s will acquire replacement airplanes from front-line units being disbanded?.

Perhaps it will lead to a few associate units ? This seems to be a "hot" thing ...

Regarding rumours ; One of them has also been, closing Lakenheath and remove the wing to Spangdahlem with the Spangdahlem wing to move to either Aviano or ....

Time will tell...

More info @ http://www.af.mil/shared/media/document ... 03-027.pdf

Only mention of "divesting" (nice one..) an "Active Component overseas location" on page 5. No explicit mention of Spangdahlem as far as I can see.

So either Osan or Spangdahlem will lose its A-10's. I think Spang will be the loser... :(

I'm afraid so, considering US focus on the Pacific/Asia region.

According journal gazette, via twitter, 122FW 163FS will trade in their A10s for MC-12s.

The Air Force intends to retire the Warthogs at the Ferguson Road base this fall. There have been 16 to 18 that fly out of there, with previous plans to increase the number to 21, Augustine said. The Air Force will place nine to 11 of the MC-12 planes at the base starting Oct. 1, 2013.

The intersting thing about the MC-12(W)? fleet is there is/was a motion going through Congress directing the transfer of the MC-12W fleet from the Air Force to the Army.

Anyone have any ideas if this is still going to happen?.
