F-22`s over Calgary feb 21.

Post by Sowald »

Yesterday afternoon around 2 PM local time 1 USAF KC-10 and 6 F-22`s flew over Calgary in a NW direction.
Most likely these were heading towards Alaska.
On the pictures, which are made by Bill Gavin, you can clearly see that 1 Raptor is refueling while flying over Calgary.
Bill was so kind enough to allow me to post the pics here.
We are now wondering if anybody out there knows the numbers of the 6 Raptors.
The KC-10 was CLEAN32 87-0123.

Thanks for pointing that sixth one out.......

Now this set-up seems like a photo shoot, with number six so far out to the right. Who knows you will see the photographic result soon, and manage to read off the numbers.

What are six F-22's doing over Calgary anyway ?? Or is there any large exercise going on somewhere?

Cheers,
Iwan

Possibly on their way to/from Red Flag Alaska? Just a wild guess, but Calgary should be approximately along the route Langley-Alaska..

Red Flag Alaska seems to be on other dates; according the USAF website;

Red Flag- Alaska 09-2: April 16- May 1
Red Flag- Alaska 09-3: July 23- August 7
Red Flag- Alaska 10-1: October 1-16

Perhaps these are new planes enroute to Elmendorf AFB ?? Ore training ?

I doubt that an F-22 would make a good cameraship...no two-seater available afaik, so the pilot should be the photographer as well then.

Maybe the sixth one was done refuelling and the other 4 near the tanker were awaiting their turn?

Hi Bas,

The common practise is that all waiting receivers are lined up on one wing, and each individual jet moves over to the other wing when its own refuelling is complete. In this shot it would mean that two jets have finished, two are still waiting for their turn, and the fifth one is taking on gas. Number six doesn't seem to be involved in this sequence.

Maybe we'll never know......

Cheers,
Iwan
