Don't make me laugh! It is a pain in the ass for the Royal Navy, but making sure every ship has at least one (!) helo is enough effort for the moment.

true.. but I thought maybe for the operational piracy missions they'd be able to get an extra airframe (slightly) operational..
Dfenece minister Hillen this morning on radio1 appeared to have accepted the thought that the libians claim the Lynx as warbooty...
Good to hear the guys/gals are coming home soon..

By the way, doesn't even sound too bad for a vessel: HMS Lynxless.....

Great news to have the crew home safely! :welcome:

For further flights to Libya, may I suggest: instead of a Lynx, use F-16`s. About a dozen of them....... :stick:

Just a stupid 'action' for the cost of a Lynx...(and not yet mentioned the 'rumours' about the possible payment that the government has done, which is quite common with this kind of situations to release the crew)
Luckily the crew is save now.

Rumours are that the man who had to be released wasn't working for Royal Hashkoning only......

Now THERE'S a surprise...
It had better something to do with intelligence or foreign affairs liaison, otherwise this was a rather useless and expensive "taxi ride"...

I don't believe money has been payed to release them. If there is something Khaddafi doesn't need it's money (Even after his accounts are frozen).

The fact that this 'civilian' immediately was released by the Libyan authorities imho indicates his value may have been less worth than that of a 35+ year old Lynx helicopter.... :(

Malcolm Bezzina pointed a link out in the 'military news' section
http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/vi ... anks-malta

apparently Libya proposed to trade the 2 Mirage F1 currently in Malta for the dutch crew. Malta refused.
Then there is Greece helping the dutch out. A bit of a suprise..
or
The Greek government wouldnt happen to have some Mirage F1's stored somewhere in the back of an airfield, and offer those to Libya instead...

No! they would not ! ?

Great conspiracy theory but do you really think that at a moment when the whole world is talking about a possible 'no-fly' zone to prevent Gadhaffi from using his fighter jets on his own people, Greece would risk her reputation by making a deal to deliver more warplanes to Libya? And for what, to get three Dutch (not Greek) soldiers out of Libya? A little far fetched to say the least...

If Holland (in return for the Greece help) will be a bit less strict about the financial situation Greece is in...
