Photography at Leeuwarden

Post by chrisov »

Hello
I hope to visit Leeuwarden, for my first time, during Frisian Flag and have checked the 'scramble' guide to the airfield but there is no indication of the lens size required.
Please can someone tell me the approx size of lens would be required for each of the marked spots and also if there are any likely changes to the airfield guide advice during the exercise? As I seem to recall there was some extra requirements during last years exercise.
Many thanks
Cheers
Chris

I always used a 100-400, and in the last two year the 70-300. I have a crop factor camera and at 06 from the spotter's hill you need 250/270mm for a side shot. At rwy24 no problem always with the same lens.

hope this helps,. ciao

And for your info: due to the plethora of sensor sizes in cameras, built-in crop factors as well as ability to produce wanted photo quality by cropping afterwards, we largely stopped advising on focal lengths from specific spots in Airfield Guides. As the general layout of nearly all airfields can be seen on for instance Google Earth, that can be used as a means to determine approximate distance to your subjects and surmise what equipment would be needed for your preferences.

Hope this helps,
Erik

No Probs.
I always find it useful to get an idea from the 'locals' but appreciate all the variables you have mentioned.
Will have closer look on google earth too.
thanks
