Köln-Bonn (EDDK/CGN) 2022

Post by PH-AVR »

Happy New Year to all!
The first day of the year brought a few goodies to Cologne-Bonn including an Atlas Air 744F that flew for Fedex and Wamos A330 that arrived 3 days earlier with covid tests and masks. Of interest is also the Ego Airways EMB190 in full cs as this leased plane was returned to German Airways. Ego Airways went bankrupt so presume it will be repainted & reregistered back to D-AZFB soon. Unfortunately not in the best location for photos near the military ramp.

Hoi Arno,
All from outside. There are various good spotting opportunities around the airport incl an outside viewing terrace in the terminal (didn't go there yesterday). It is a little quiet during the day as the majority of (cargo) movements are in the dark. In weekends there are typically around 40 freighters relaxing on various platforms though not all can be read off easily.

A nice 39 year old Georgian registered A300F had arrived the night before so had to get it on departure Saturday. An inspection by the German Luftfahrt-Bundesamt on its airworthiness delayed departure 1.5 hours but glad I waited for this oddball. This plane is going places as it flew Calcutta-Hong Kong-Muscat-Barcelona before heading to Cologne Bonn. It left for Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan after loading, among others, 1 or 2 SUVs. The Antonov An-124 brought covid related stuff.
Cheers

A visit to catch another ATC 744F and the Braathens ATR72. Earlier in the day the HS-HMK 738 Royal Thai Government/RTAF made a touch and go as“VMS10” to and from Munich but I got that one already a month ago on a similar training flight.

Short stop @Cologne-Bonn for a Bombardier delivery flight, guess it was foggy at intended destination Oberpfaffenhofen :-). Later in the day also Saudi Medevac HZ-MS1A Learjet 60 arrived (instead of usual Gulfstreams). Both planes are still there at the time of writing (25 Jan 18.25).

A Canadian Hercules was a highlight and finally some sunshine. Nice also to see 3 foreign Challengers including a rare Nigerian one that was in town for maintenance.
