VUD: how to keep the NF-5’s flight-worthy…

Since the introduction of the F-16 in the Klu, more and more NF-5 have gradually been decommissioned since 1986. While waiting for what would happen to these aircraft, they were stored at the DVM on Gilze-Rijen.
They were parked in old hangars such as the H-401 salvage hangar and cross-servicing hangar. The shelters were damp and unheated and moreover it was a shelter for various bird species who spontaneously dropped their droppings on the precious machines. The fuselage and wings were covered with large rags, but below it was soon discovered condensation deposit which could lead to corrosion. The NF-5’s therefore had to be aired regularly.
Initially, the NF-5s were kept in flight-worthy condition, but that required a lot of maintenance. The engines were tested every 45 days, and a short test flight was needed after 90 days. The technicians then talked about the VUD machines, which meant Vliegend Uit Dienst-Flying Out of Service...
In the coming pages I'll show with some photo's what I discovered during a few periods I was bases at EHGR again. In the end of 1986 I got training at the ATC school to become a qualified Tower Controller. After graduation I was at the LUOS Officers School on the base beginning 1988. Around lunch I frequently made a tour around the base and peeped around on flightlines and hangars, knowing that everyone enjoyed their lunch hour, and I was able to sneek around and take photos.. hope you enjoy this contribution !

PROBLEMS WITH PHOTO UPLOAD COMING SOON... I HOPE...
