Zhukovsky 1992

Post by 32FIS »

Not hindered by any knowledge of new Russia we went to Zhukovsky in august 1992 for the Mosaeroshow ‘92, the forerunner of the latter MAKS shows. As it was the first show ever at this base it was a real eye-opener. As a bonus we received wrong passes, which gave us also entry to the operational side of the base. Needless to say it was heaven for us. Only very few western spotters/photographers visited this show. I hope you like the pictures.

This SU-7UB Moujik crashed 10 mins after this photo was taken. A/c was supposed to do a ejectionseat demo. If the rear seat worked we will never know, frontseat was working well and pilot was OK.

For people who went to moscou after the early ninties, the is how traffic looked in 1992, almost no cars and no billboards.

You used this opportunity very well!

Any Yak-38 Forger "Soviet Harrier" pics? It seems one was present during this particular show.

Interesting sight, a Mi-6 and a Mi-10 flying in relatively close formation.

Sitting here, alone at my laptop, I could not help but utter the words "WOW" after seeing this post.
An awesome post with lots of aircraft I (and many with me) would love to have seen.
Pure aviation porn.

Indeed, Ton is editing at the moment, adding more pictures, including that Yak-38U just now.
That dual is rather rare :!:

Nice to see these pictures. I was also there and had a great time.
I did also a flight in a DOSAAF Wilga and Mi-8 for 1 US Dollar each!

What a fantastic set of pictures, a joy to watch. Some of the hardware types is still flying. I like the last one too, make a huge difference compared to today's situation on the roads in Moscow.

Myasishchev 'Bison Mya-4,

This version is a 3M-T / BM-T "Atlant" -- In the late 1970s a single 3M bomber was converted to transport outsized components for the Energiya-Buran space launch system from the manufacturing facility to the Baikonur launch site. The cargo, including propellant tanks and the Buran orbiter itself, were placed on external mounting points located above the fuselage. This particular aircraft had a strengthened fuselage, a longer two-fin tail and a new flight control system. The original designation of the aircraft was 3M-T but was subsequently changed to BM-T "Atlant". The first flight took place on April 29, 1981 and the first flight with freight in January, 1982. The plane carried out a total of 150 flights.

It is a Myasischev M-4 aka "Bison". However it comes from the same era as Tu-16.
