The Morava, an interesting type, seldom seen in the US.

Lockheed's 4-engine entry into the executive jet field, the L.1329 Jetstar, was a common site at airports around the country, if not the globe, in the 1960s and 1970s. It is pretty scarce today. I photographed this one at Reading, PA on 5 June 1974

For sure my favourite among biz jets, old and new! But did you know that an even better looking biz jet could have preceded it? Not from Lockheed, but from Martin. They once proposed a passenger version of the B-57 Canberra to the Air Force. Unfortunately the Air Force wasn´t interested and the civil biz jet market was still non existent... What a shame...

I had not heard of that Canberra idea before, but why not? The Canberra did everything else, with class!

Indeed :wink: It was the idea to redesign the cockpit to a conventional two person cockpit (side by side) and create a pressurized cabin behind the cockpit (where the bomb bay used to be). It only existed on paper....

Anyway, never built, so no pictures. But I will do with the great JetStar! Thanks for sharing all these, very nice to see.

Rob,
Truly great selection of old airliners in that last post. There were so many interesting types back then. Turboprop power was never very popular in the USA, but between the European Manufacturers and the Eastern Block manufacturers there was a wide assortment of them in the air back when you took those shots. Excellent selection!

Thank you so much for sharing that photo by your father. It is a dream-like photo, saturated in history. Wonderful!

L1011 N306EA landing runway #06 at Bradley Field, CT 21 May 1974. In the background is the small hangar that for many years housed an F-111 bailed to Pratt & Whitney for engine tests. I never once saw it outside this hangar.

Rob, that KLM DC-8 was so stretched I had to run out and buy a wide screen monitor! :wink:
