F27's op Eindhoven.

Post by Nlspot2003 »

In English: the F27 fuselage that can be seen on the military apron next to the fire brigade at Eindhoven airbase, today has been positively identified as the former C-9. It is not, as many people believed, the former C-7. Where the C-7 is today remains to be seen.

Thanx Venz!

Edit: due to the lack of c/n plate (i/d established through the radio-call plate in the cockpit) and the less-than well-known history of several airframes after retirement (C-3, C-7 and C-9) this matter is still pending. Given the mention of C-9 only being a forward fuselage at De Kooij previously, there is a possibility that the cockpit section of C-9 was grafted onto another fuselage. "Investigations are continuing"... One thing's for sure: the cockpit is that of C-9..!

The cockpit and fuselage are definitely not a marriage of parts from two different a/c. I was inside the i/a and not even a tiny trace of any cut and paste actions. The proof that the i/a at EHEH is the C-9 is for 99% sure. What happened with the C-7 then is under investigation.

History of the C-3 is very clear. It's scrapped, remains/parts can be found at EHEH and EHGR (and in some closets and barns of the people who ripped this aircraft before)

A big "thanks" to Venz for clearing this up!

This actually rewrites F27 history at EHEH as opposed to what is in the Scramble and Airnieuws databases (and has so dilligently been copied by others  ) more than 12 years after retirement of the Friendships and Troopships :!: It is now obvious from comparing several pictures to establish beyond doubt that the F27 that was reported roadrunning to and from De Kooij in 2009, noted at De Kooij around that time and the one that was in the EHEH shelter area in 2013 is actually one and the same aircraft, and furthermore, it is the one now at the military apron at EHEH. This is NOT C-7, as many people were led to believe, but C-9. Also, the airframe at De Kooij was not just a forward fuselage, as was reported, but an almost complete fuselage with most of the wing box still attached, just as it is today.

Venz and I are both working our contacts (Venz has much more, and better placed, I must admit) to find out what happened to C-7. Perhaps it never was at Eindhoven; it certainly was not the frame noted at De Kooij, or the one currently on the apron at Eindhoven!

To round off the discussion on C-3: Venz has provided ample proof that the fuselage was scrapped at Eindhoven around 2009/10. Reports of it being noted stored at Gilze-Rijen in 2013 can only refer to wings, engines, fin and several other bits and pieces because that are the only parts left lying around at EHGR..

There was a report(s) of a F27 fuselage at WOE with the fire department in 2013 said to be C-9.
Incorrect report or is this the C-7 ?

In fact, C-10 (the F-27 Display one) is currently at EHLE, in preparation for display at the new National Military Museum.

Wouldn't be surprised if this frame was roaded in to WOE for some kind of exercise, as it was so at EHKD too.

My Soesterberg spotters magazine tells me the following about the C-7;

13-06-1996 - Out of service
00-06-1996 - Stored at Woensdrecht
00-00-0000 - Sold to Fa. Valitrade Ltd, South Africa for parts.
00-10-2002 - Fuselage scrapped at Woensdrecht
Present wreckage at Eindhoven in use for fire department exercise

... in which case (at least) the last line is incorrect: the airframe in use at EHEH is that of C-9. No sign of C-7 anywhere.

C-7 was never at Eindhoven since 1996. It was all the time mixed up with C-9. The C-9 has been the fire fighting object for all these years, at Eindhoven and as travel object for all other fire fighters on other bases like Volkel and de Kooij.
