CFB Cold Lake - Maple Flag 51

Post by Crouze »

Maple Flag 51 has started. Now, we all know by now that this edition is not what it was supposed to be, with the two most exotic participants (Peruvian Mirage 2000's and Saudi Tornado's) having cancelled their attendance; or was it just wishful thinking from someone in the RCAF hierarchy? Anyway, it was nice to spend a day or two outside the fence, despite the miserable weather...

A quick and dirty log from today (Monday 11 june 2018):

Locals:
Alpha-Jet: C-GZTO/016, C-GUTO/036, C-FSTA/046, C-FOTA/072, C-GQTA/141
CF-188: 188729/YO-A, 188734, 188741, 188743, 188750, 188753/YO-M, 188754/YO-S, 188757/YO-R, 188766/YO-Q, 188767/YO-L, 188770, 188775, 188777/YO-U, 188785, 188796/YO-W, 188918, 188923, 188925, 188930/YO-Y, 188935, 188937
CT-155: 155204, 155221

Many flew Maple Flag sorties, but I did not keep track which did and which did not. These two AETE Hornets certainly didn't: 188735, 188936

Maple Flag participants:
CC-130: 130341
CC-150: 15005
CF-188: 188730, 188762, 188771, 188774 (all from Bagotville)
E-3: LX-N90459
EA-18G: 168765/NL-530, 168770/NL-531, ....../NL-532, ....../NL-534
F-16: FA84, FA87, FA95, FA97, FA98, FA106, FA110, FA118, FA128, FA133
F/A-18: A21-8, A21-11, A21-12, A21-19, A21-37, A21-38

Yes...that's it...

Cheers,
Marco

4 Growlers. I suspect the participating B-52 simply flies its Maple Flag missions from Minot.

One thinks that those countries were on the Canadians wish list and weren't actually confirmed...

It doesn't work like that.... I would gladly offer my assistance in making such a wish list however!

The title "Participating nations confirmed for Maple Flag 51" here; http://couriernews.ca/2018/04/03/partic ... e-flag-51/ suggests more than a wishlist.

This is just my opinion, but a press release quoting 14 participants, 9 of which don't turn up seems a bit strange to me. If 1 or 2 participants dropped out then fair enough, but 9...

Anyway, irrelevant. What's there is there.

There are a lot of participating nations that do not bring aircraft... read Scramble 460.

The link specifically mentioned 'Participating international aircraft', but I'm with Mark on this one; with 9 dropping out it makes the original list look silly.
