NAES Lakehurst (KNEL)

Post by The DJ »

Recent photo's show some preserved a/c restored and in new schemes. Might be interesting for those that keep track.
I've added some extra info on the GIA a/c as well, but it also raises questions. Additional info is most welcome.

A-7B 154443/AD206 VFA-174mks Oct18 ex-NJ406 VA-25mks (repainted Oct17)
F-4J 153074/NG111 VF-96mks Oct18 ex-NG90 VF-96mks (repainted Jun11)
A-4B 142106/106 u/m Sep18 ex-AA401 VA-15mks (restoration Sep18, only modex 106 on nose)

Inside Hangar 1:
F-14 /60 nose only, Oct15-Jul18 (repainted by Jun17)
AV-8 nose only, Oct15-Jul18

Western Navy Area ( 40.018897° -74.372638°):
F-14A 160926/AJ112 VFA-41mks Oct18 ex-AJ212 VFA-41mks (repainted Sep15), Former GIA a/c, f/n Oct08?
Next to the above (shown on GE) is I think the F-11A that used to be on the gate?
Also new here is an F/A-18 with a white nose, might be former GIA AF303 ex-VFA203. Buno unknown.
F-8A 145397/100 that used to sit here went into restoration by Jun17. Where did it go after?

A bit further are two GIA a/c (40.017086° -74.398193°):
E-2 /626 f/n Oct08? Buno?
F/A-18 unknown, this might be a recent arrival.

Thanks for the info Mark/Andy!

I have the preserved F/A-18C as 163731 since may16 but confirmation is al always appreciated, this one could be the one near the E-2 as well.

Looking at some old W&R notes, 160926 has been at Lakehurst since Jun01 at least.
Another F-14 is at N40.02561, W74.31794. This is 160658 "Vandy One", the VX-9 black bird.
163731 is at the entrance gate at N40.02603, W74.30849

I have an Oct08 log on those GIA a/c, hence those dates.
163731/SH130 is at the gate since Sep15. I think exact date was 24sep15.
The black VX-9 Tomcat is indeed still in situ, two UAV's sit across on display.

The F-11 is confirmed as the one on display next to F-14 AJ112.

The two UAVs that sit across the VX-9 Tomcat are RQ-8A 166401 and an RQ-2 marked 01.
