In this video you can see how one of the Dutch Chinooks of the 298 Squadron at Gilze-Rijen Air Base performs his exercise on the Slopes. Special in this video is the fact that the Chinook is flying backwards towards the slopes during its approach; so good old reverse parking on the slopes. The helicopter in question was the D-106 also known as the Porcupine or Stikelbaarch. The name "Porcupine" was assigned to the D-106 by its crew chief Gerben Dijkstra, who was known in the 298 Squadron for his exceptional spiky hair. The link with a porcupine was quickly established by other members of the squadron, which is how this Chinook got this nickname. In the future the Ch-47D will be replaced by the CH-47F variant of the Chinook. The first helicopters of this type are already delivered to the RNLAF in the United States.
