The incident actually happened inside the base. After two failed attempts to land due to adverse meteo conditions (rain and crosswind), on the third attempt the plane apparently touched down hard and had a wingtip contact with the runway. It veered off the runway, ended on the grass and caught fire. The pilot ejected while the plane was on the ground and was unharmed. It was an F-16C Blk 52+ from 117 CW in Souda
