You're not the only one having trouble with the spam detector. I think that 40% of all quick replies are regarded as spam (which is pretty irritating  )...

What do you mean with a quick reply??.
All replies within 5 seconds are considered as spam...see the explanation by Hans on the first page of this topic.

That's right, but even messages that take longer (e.g. 10 secs) are often rejected. This also happens when I'm using the preview function. It seems like the counting starts over again when you're using this.

Next to this, because of the 5 seconds minimum it's rather frustrating to edit a message you just posted (e.g. to correct a typo or try to fix a wrong image url).

Yes, as already explained on the previous page;
Hans wrote:In the meantime, just remember this 5 seconds limit starts all over again after you've used the "preview" option!
But despite the nuance, personally I'm pretty happy with it, as since the implementation we have had ZERO spam postings!

OK, I've shortened the "spam detection period" to 2 seconds. But as soon as we are getting any spam postings again, I'll reverse that change!

Search

Post by SquAdmin »

Hi Hans,

once a again a question regarding spam: I just found out that the search function also has a mandatory delay (when searching quickly, it'll give you a message that you cannot start a second query soon after the first one). Is this also an anti-spam measurement??

Hi SquAdmin,

No this is a measure to lower the pressure on the database: because a search means every single record has to be searched, this puts a relative high load on the database.
But this is a feature which is already in place almost since the very beginning of this Message Board :-)

Okay, this is the first time I ever noticed it

Anyway, don't wanna be impolite or something, but if a feature is actually too heavy for the system, why offer it?

because it can be very, very useful :-)

And a single search doesn't do that much harm, but a lot of parallel/consecutive searches do, which is up to a certain point prohibited with this 30 seconds limit.

But to be honest, this was the default value, which until today I didn't give that much thought. But I have lowered it now to 15 seconds, which I hope is sufficient.

Regards

Hans
